Reena and I met mat-to-mat in prenatal yoga class, at the wonderful Toronto Yoga Mamas.  The first thing you notice about Reena is her incredible eyes, the second is her warm smile. To be honest, I think I first noticed her incredibly toned back! (I had hit the point in my pregnancy where I was taking it a little bit easy, and getting a little bit mushy.) We quickly learned that we were expecting our little ones a day apart, and that we both were registered at the same birth centre.  Little did we know our kids would be born a month apart in the end! The four of us have become fast friends. Reena is incredibly passionate and motivating, extremely supportive and she is an amazing cook! She is definitely the kind of girlfriend you want in your court. I can’t wait for you all to meet her!

What is Reena Parekh Fitness and Nutrition all about?

I started as a group fitness instructor about 5 years ago. Since then, my love for fitness, health, wellness and nutrition has grown. My passion for helping others translated well into this field and so I started seeing clients on a more individual level. Now I provide personal and small group training and nutrition consulting. My business focuses on helping clients define what health and wellness means to them on a personal level. Then I help them achieve that vision through a holistic approach to fitness and nutrition.

What motivates you?
Seeing clients succeed and do things they didn’t think were possible.

What is the most challenging part about being an entrepreneur / working mom?
Making the time for family, business and home.

What is your super power? I can tuck jump on command.

What is something that you think people should know about you?
I love food.

Who is your supporting cast of characters? (who needs a shout out)
Ash, husband and entrepreneur. We consistently inspire and encourage one another.

What has been your greatest challenge?

For many years, I struggled with poor body image, an eating disorder, depression and anxiety. As difficult as it was to go through and overcome, I believe it led me to the path I am on today. My mission is to help others improve their relationship with physical activity and food so they can create the healthy, active lifestyle they imagine for themselves.

I’ve written some very personal blog posts about my journey on my website. Check out “The Skinny” or a post I wrote about my relationship with my postpartum body called “1 year later: why I don’t want my body back.”
