We are a company that believes that business can be done better, and that we can make a difference in the lives of Canadian families (and hopefully the world too).
In the summer of 2004 we started (then known as Hip Mommies and Phat Babies) as a brother and sister team in a makeshift home office/warehouse. In the beginning we decided to get into the baby product industry because we believed in the product we distributed, and felt others would to. Those early days were challenging, exciting, and a little scary, but we knew we were onto something as we quickly outgrew our space and became one of the most respected pet, toddler, toy and baby product distributors. We are passionate about helping Canadian families lead healthy lives.
We are young parents ourselves. We know that modern families are seeking out different things than the parents of even a decade ago.
We are in the thick of it and we get it, we understand how difficult it can be to make the right choices. We are concerned with protecting our families from chemicals and protecting the environment that we leave for them. We understand the need for multi-functional products because we want to live with less, and be able to live quality lives in smaller spaces.
We seek out useful, well-made, thoughtful, mom-approved, safe products that are manufactured in a responsible way. We look to partner with suppliers that are good people, supporting good causes, and that are doing business ethically.
The Hip Mommies team comes from diverse backgrounds – culturally and professionally. We have degrees in psychology, new media, and digital imaging. We have experience in video production, teaching english in Japan, illustration, line cooking, television, working in creative departments in major corporations and living for months out of a backpack.
We are children of entrepreneurs, and remember growing up in warehouses ourselves. The entrepreneurial spirit that we were taught lives on, and although there has been some changes to our leadership team, we are still family-run today.
We understand social media, the web, and how these influence the decisions that moms make when choosing products for their families. We use technology responsibly to improve our efficiency, allowing us to spend more time on customer service without relying on an outbound sales team. We place priority on customer service, and you can connect with one of the core team members any time if you wish. We recognize that we are partners with both our suppliers and our retailers, and we make choices that benefit us all.
Our lineup is carefully curated. By maintaining a smaller collection of brands we can give each line the attention it requires to grow organically within Canada.
