We are Hip Mommies. Canadian distribution of health, baby and toddler products for happy & healthy families.

If you interact with Hip Mommies, these are the faces you are likely to see first.  We are a family owned and operated business, and have been since 2004.  There are several Chua’s behind the scenes, but a husband and wife team do most of the face-to-face.

Joseph Chua

CEO / co-founder

Joseph (Joey) Chua has spent the last twelve years as director of Hip Mommies.  Coming home to Canada from Japan to start the business in his early twenties, Joey was not sure where the baby industry would take him.  More than a decade later, he views the challenges of business as a great compliment to his love of competitive sports. (Lets go Raptors!)

Joey spends his days connecting with retailers and forging relationships, and he spends his nights playing pickup basketball, building block towers with his toddler, walking the family French Bulldog through East Lynn Park, and dreaming of adventure travel destinations.  He is passionate about good eats, family life, retro Air Jordans, irezumi, adventure travel, playing guitar, and using his backyard smoker (his new found obsession.)

Jennifer Chua

CCO / creative and digital

Jennifer Myers Chua is an all round creative type and asian-food enthusiast.  Obsessed with culinary pursuits and whitespace; Jennifer spends her days with Hip Mommies working on all things creative and web, and contributing to our blog and social accounts. She spends her nights pinning and deconstructing recipes in anything but maternity jeans.

Before Hip Mommies, Jennifer worked as a digital art director for HGTV.ca and Food Network Canada.  She also lent her talents to an animated children’s show with CBC, tried culinary school (not a great idea during your first trimester) and ran a freelance web business from Northern Thailand.  She is passionate about cycling, cook books, colour palettes, wandering through big cities, and trying to live as a minimalist with a young family.

Sue-Ann Wong

manager of operations

An organizer at heart, Sue-Ann manages most of the operations at Hip Mommies. This includes but is not limited to: inventory management, picking & packing, logistics, and child / dog minding. Having incredible taste and a knack for visual merchandising, she has helped design and style our new showroom. Sue-Ann’s impressive work history includes stints in the house of commons and the art department of a television production company. Entrepreneurially minded, Sue-Ann has owned and operated both a jerk restaurant and a home decor / gift boutique in South America. On top of all of that, she is also a doting auntie and she may-or-may-not be a ninja.

Aside from being our resident “spark joy” expert, Sue-Ann also has a flair for domestic pursuits.  She can often be found shopping for fresh cut flowers (Hydrangeas and Peonies top the list) baking lemon squares, or beautifying her home. The remainder of her time is split between spoiling her young nephews or noshing on pork-bone soup (she has been converted!) with the rest of the team.

Blanca Myers

bookeeper

Blanca Myers is our resident number cruncher, home renovation specialist and murder mystery fanatic. Originally from Berlin,Germany, Blanca exhibits the German traits of directness and order. Keeping meticulously organized files, records and folders, Blanca loves only one thing more than her label maker – her granddaughters, who she loves to spoil. Incredibly self-reliant, Blanca’s proudest accomplishment has been raising three girls as a single mother.

Blanca can usually be found covered in drywall mud, on the phone with Quickbooks tech support, creating digital photo albums for every occasion or feasting on salmon sushi in front of Murdoch Mysteries. Newest goal? Every escape room in the city. Quiet and reserved in her youth, Blanca has a new-found love for adventure, especially if she can bring her granddaughters along for the ride.
