This week we profile Katherine, a mom I have had the pleasure of meeting in real life. She is just as warm as you would imagine and is definitely someone you would respect. Katherine has a demanding legal career, a killer professional wardrobe, and the most incredible feed. Her Instagram features photos of her two young boys and their life together as a family – and many times I have spotted ezpz in her feed, and on her Instastories. Katherine’s home is as warm and inviting as she is, and you are going to love how she documents her days. So, as one of my favourite Canadian insta-moms, I had to share her with you!
Hello Kat! Can you tell me a bit about your parenting “philosophy?” if you have one?
I don’t really have a philosophy per se, I have a very organic and fluid approach to motherhood. I don’t get caught up on how things are “supposed” to be or how my kids are “supposed” to be developing or progressing. Each child is different and requires a different type of attention and care. I tend not to stress over things I can’t control and try not to impose too much on my kids.
Motherhood can be tough at times, I know. What has been your proudest moment?
Each phase of motherhood presents new challenges. At this stage, the hardest part is balancing motherhood and career. I have proud moments every single day. Just watching them grow and learn each day makes me incredibly proud
How are your boys with food? Did you do BLW, purees, a combination?
My oldest is an extremely picky eater, but my younger son eats anything! With my first, we started with purees, but that didn’t go so well. So with my second, we did BLW and it worked so much better for us.
So now, does mealtime go smoothly?
My boys are polar opposites in this respect. One eats everything and one eats a very select few items. I have to sneak in nutrients through smoothies and baked goods.
If a fellow mom came to you just starting the feeding journey, what advice would you give her?
Let them have fun and get messy. I think allowing them to explore with textures and flavours early on is key.
It is obvious in your feed that you are a big fan of ezpz. When did you begin to use ezpz?
We only use ezpz. We started using the mats when my younger son started his BLW. I take them to restaurants, on planes, you name it. They were, and still are, a pivotal component of mealtime for us. Anything else you want to share with other moms that may be struggling with mealtime?
Invest in a mat to put under the highchair, something that’s easy to clean and let your child have fun with food.
