Lisa is so bright and warm (so is her website, you need to check it out) that I could not resist crushing on her. Meet Lisa from Calgary!

Your Name: Lisa Hewitt
Kids Names: Julian + Sterling
Company Name: Bright Beginnings

What is the Story behind your business?

After being a part of the Naturopathic Community in Calgary for 6+ years, I started to notice some compelling parallels between children’s health and the positive, notable impact that vibrant nutrition can play during pregnancy, and also within the first year of a baby’s life.

While I was pregnant with my second child, these observations as a Holistic Nutritionist became an unexpected, heart-centered topic of absolute passion! I knew I wanted to have a stronger voice in our communities of Mamas, and to help families navigate the overwhelming and often conflicting amount of information out there about nutrition + wellness.

How did the idea for the business come about?

When my baby was starting solids around 6-months of age, I couldn’t believe the amount of polarizing information being presented to Moms. If I was overwhelmed, certainly other Mamas would be! Beyond that, I was seeking a more intuitive approach to first foods and longed for guidelines that would celebrate a holistic + traditional method as such;

I felt strongly about offering whole, nutrient-dense foods from nature, believing that this would best honour an impressionable (and brand-new!) digestive system while supporting long-term health most effectively.

Within a few months my business for Prenatal Nutrition + Holistic Food Introductions was born! What I soon came to appreciate, is that just like our friends far + wide across the globe, there is not one single way to handle infant nutrition, and my job as a consultant is to support parents in finding an approach that feels right for their family while making it as healthful as possible!

What motivates you?

Many things, but most powerfully is that quiet place in my heart that wishes to make a real difference and offer something that truly matters to our communities of children. My greatest intention is to encourage Moms to tune into their intuition no matter what, and let that be their guide when it comes to their baby’s health;

So often (myself included), information can make complete sense on paper but simply doesn’t feel right. This is our gift as Mothers… our instincts reining us in – a primitive, inherent mechanism built for survival! Surely, it should matter just as much as ever in our modern world, just for rather different reasons.

What is the most challenging part about being an entrepreneur / working mom?

Time-management! I am consistently trying to find the right balance – it is tough! Period.

What is your super power?

Beautiful nutrition + soul food! Not necessarily in that order 😉

What is something that you think people should know about you?

I really, really care. My heart is in it – every client, every file, every word I write or picture I post is coming straight from the heart without false-pretence.

Who is your supporting cast of characters? (who needs a shout out)

My Little Village! My kids, being the ultimate motivation, my mother-in-law for being the most generous care-giver + playmate for my 2 year old, and my partner for his unwavering patience and ability to support me always. It is a blessing to be loved + supported in my dreams.
