Today’s mom crush is a really inspiring woman. Lianne is one of the co-founders of Mamas & Co (we profiled Emma Rohmann previously), a Toronto based networking group for mom entrepreneurs. Members socialize of course, but like any really great community they teach, support and help each other’s businesses grow. I joined only recently and have already learned a tonne from like-minded women in various fields. If you are local, I highly recommend it. Lianne is bright, bubbly and she really knows her stuff. Meet Lianne!

Your Name: Lianne Kim
Kids Names: Julia and Alex

What is the Story behind your business?

My mission is to help female entrepreneurs grow their business and achieve their own version of success.

How did the idea for the business come about?

I discovered my mission when I started a local community group for moms who ran their own business. The women were getting so much value out of learning and networking events within the group, that I realized there was a huge need for more of this, so Emma Rohmann and I launched Mamas & Co. officially in spring 2016. I discovered through connecting with the women within Mamas & Co. that a lot of female business owners could benefit from what I knew about sales. After all I spent 15 years in sales, and I helped a lot of companies make a lot of money, but now I want to help female entrepreneurs make more money and feel great doing it.

What motivates you?

I am always motivated by seeing the women I work with make great strides they didn’t think were possible . And I am motivated by my kids – as cheesy as it sounds I want to set an example and be living proof it is possible to live your dreams.

What is the most challenging part about being an entrepreneur / working mom?

The most challenging part about being an entrepreneur is there will always be people who doubt your abilities or intentions, or just don’t get what you’re about. It’s tough to tune out the negators, but you have to rise above it all and just do you as best you can.

The biggest lesson I have learned about being an entrepreneur is the importance of creating long-term relationships. It’s easy to go it alone for a while but if you want your success to last you’ll have to find people to trust and partner with that have the same long-term goals as you do and your work can compliment each other’s. You don’t necessarily need a business partner, but ask yourself ‘who do I know that can help me grow my business, that I can also help in return’. Partnerships are key!

My two major projects on the horizon are my Think Big Mastermind Program – a virtual mastermind group which launches end of January and is designed for female entrepreneurs who want to crush their 2017 goals in just 12 weeks. We’re also working on a new full-day event for Mamas & Co. (called the New Business Bootcamp April 22nd), geared towards sharing critical business skills to anyone who is in their first few years of business.

What is your super power?

My super power would be tenacity. I can honestly hustle harder than anyone I know and I don’t give up.

What is something that you think people should know about you?

People should know about me that I am very passionate about my “Me-time” and my idea of an awesome night is a bowl of stove-popped popcorn (my speciality), a glass of wine and Gilmore Girls on Netflix.

Who is your supporting cast of characters? (who needs a shout out)

Shout-outs. Mamas & Co. would not be where it is today with my partner Emma Rohmann who is the yin to my yang and so fiercely dedicated and amazing at what she does. My husband Yoon is honestly the most giving and understanding person I know and were it not for his support, there is not way I could start one business, let alone two. My mom Carol who always encouraged me to pursue my wildest ideas and taught me that I could be anything I wanted. My sister Lauren who has shared more life and parenting lessons than I could ever count, and is a constant mentor to me in every way. And my tribe, the 200+ Mamas & Co. members for always being there for me just like they are for each other.
