At Hip Mommies, we seek out  useful, well-made, thoughtful, mom-approved, safe products that are manufactured in a responsible way. Not just to distribute, but to use with our own families. We choose to support / share / send love to companies that are good people, supporting good causes, and that are doing business ethically. We think Neil Brothers’ fits the bill.

About me:  I spent years of my life working in restaurant kitchens, then more years at Food Network. I am known for my impressive cookbook collection and my LOVE for local restaurants. I even spent some time in culinary pursuits at George Brown College (some of which was during my first trimester of pregnancy, but we will leave that for another post entirely.)

Needless to say, I love food. Especially low-fuss food enjoyed with friends. And since I have become a mom – the more low-fuss the better. In the summer, it is all about making the weekend BBQs easily gourmet. So when Neal Brothers offered to send me a selection of their new mayos I was excited to try some of my favourite summer recipes, testing them out on some very hungry dinner (and lunch) guests.

Lime Mayonnaise
Used this for: Mexican inspired chicken burgers (patties flavoured with cumin, ancho chilis, cilantro) Delicious! citrusy and fresh.

Classic Mayonnaise
Used this for: Summer potato salad with tomatoes, lemon zest, paprika and dill pickles. My personal favourite mayo of the four, this jar was the first to go. Maybe I am a mayonnaise  purist but this one just tastes SO GOOD and close to homemade. I used it on everything.

Truffle Mayonnaise
Used this for: Paleo beef burgers with grilled Portobello mushroom “buns.” Is mayo Paleo? I forgot to check. BUT we had some gluten free guests coming over for a BBQ, and the mayo is definitely GF.

Truffle mayo round 2: Picnic lunch! I made an egg salad with the truffle mayo and some fresh green onions and chives from the garden. It was incredible.

Sriracha Mayonnaise
Used this for:  I had attempted to serve this with BBQ roasted potatoes …. but it ended up on everything. Even as a dip for some Neal Brothers Sea Salt potato chips. Overwhelmingly this was the most popular flavour among our BBQ guests. Everyone loves the rooster! Nice spice.

Neal Brothers is a proudly Canadian company (I like to support and eat local when I can), reasonably priced and their products are nice additions to hostess / new mom gift baskets. The four mayonnaises are all natural, gluten free and made with organic free-run eggs.
